"Joan, as we are nearing the completion of the installation in our latest house, I pause to think back over the years on how many houses,
(and boat and airplane interiors, clubs and model homes) you have designed for us. While the number is significant, what really impresses me is that
you have done each of my personal houses so differently in total keeping with the style of the architecture, from Mizner mediterranean to Victorian arts
and craft Maine "cottage" to elegant country provincial t to traditional Hamptons/ English colonial--all with true attention to authentic detail.
Your research of and sensitivity to the architectural style was critical for us in the design stage of the new houses we built and influenced the architect's
design work considerably -- your understanding of the purity of design was greater than the architect's! As for the old "cottage" and home we restored,
everyone thinks that the interior furnishings came with the homes but somehow were new and elegant.
As you know, I have worked with literally hundreds of designers in my business--for our clubs, homes, offices, hotels, high rises.
I can say with sure knowledge that of all I have worked with, you are the best of the best. I don't know if you can attribute that to your
heredity or your environment, but i would say that you have that rare and wonderful combination of great design genes, an exposure to good taste
and design from all over the world in your personal life, a passion for your work that has driven you to study and relentlessly strive for perfection, and
an empathy with the client that allows you to understand their taste, even when they can't articulate it.
You know that both Dawn and I also watch cost. I must also admit that with all the millions of dollars of goods and services
purchased through you, we have never found one error of billing -- a true testament to your efficiency (and honesty)
And, finally, Joanie darling, you are fun to be with! While I always enjoy being around creative people, you lack their traditional emotional
and unstable side. You have always conducted yourself in the most sophisticated and business-like--but casual and disarming manner.
So, finally, thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty and billings. Thanks for being a friend to Dawn and me."
